Choosing a Course
Forex Trading Courses in South Africa
There is no shortage of people willing to teach you Forex in South Africa. There is a considerable shortage of people qualified to. This page sets out what a proper course actually contains, how to tell education from hype, and what we teach at Trade From Home.
What a proper course should cover
Strip away the marketing and a genuine Forex education has five parts: how the market works, how to operate the platform, how to read a chart, how to size a position so a losing streak cannot wipe you out, and how to keep your head when it does. The fourth and fifth parts are what separate education from entertainment — and they are the parts most cheap courses skip, because risk management is far less exciting to advertise than a screenshot of a winning trade.
Six things to check before you pay anyone
A real, registered business behind it
Not an Instagram account. A company name, a physical address, and people you can phone.
Risk management taught as a core module
Position sizing, stop placement, and maximum drawdown rules — not a footnote at the end.
Live, human mentorship
Recorded videos are cheap to produce. Someone answering your question on a Tuesday evening is not.
Platform training on the software you will actually use
Knowing theory without knowing how to place and manage an order is a costly gap.
Honesty about the failure rate
Any provider that will not tell you most beginners lose money is selling you something other than education.
No guaranteed returns, ever
Nobody can guarantee market returns. A promise of fixed monthly percentages is a red flag, not a feature.
What we teach at Trade From Home
Trade From Home is the online programme of Stock Market College (Pty) Ltd, which has been teaching South Africans to trade since 2002 from First Floor, Mushroom Farm Retail Centre, Cnr Allandale and President Drive, Kyalami, 1685. That longevity matters mostly for one reason: we have watched enough market cycles to be unromantic about what works.
- The Match-Trader Platform Course — included free, so you can operate the platform confidently before any money is at stake.
- Live weekly mentorship — Monday is platform training and Tuesday is risk management. Both are open sessions — you can attend before enrolling.
- Risk and psychology as core modules — position sizing, drawdown limits, and the discipline to follow your own plan.
- A community of South African traders — people in your time zone, trading the same sessions, at the same stage.
Try before you commit
You do not have to take our word for any of this. Join a Monday or Tuesday session, sit quietly at the back, and judge the teaching for yourself. If it is not for you, nothing is lost but an evening.
